Somalia Prime Minister ‘Violated Political Neutrality’ to Offend South West State

Roble violated the principle of political neutrality to offend South West State leadership.

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — At the height of the conflict between Ahlu Sunna paramilitaries and Galmudug State forces, the Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble did not give tacit support to Ahlu Sunna. He respected the legitimacy of the administration under President Ahmed Abdi Karie.

Roble broke with this conveensjton when he instructed the security minister to write to the director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency about an urgent report on the health and safety of Sheikh Muqtar Robow.  In 2018 the Federal Government of Somalia arrested for violating the terms of his defection. He was disqualified from running for the Presidency of South West State.

To heap political pressure on the President of South West State Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed, the Somalia Prime Minister, irked by President Abdiaziz’s initial rejection to attend the summit publicized by Roble, attempted to facilitate the release of the former senior leader of Al-shabaab.

“This very act is a violation of political neutrality. Roble did not resort to destablizaing tactics when conflict was raging in Galmudug State. It is deplorable that the Prime Minister acted on a whim. Robow was a terrorist but he has not denounced his ideology” said Hassan Abdi Mumin, a political analyst in Baidoa.

The Prime Ministerial Code of Conduct states that political neutrality and political legitimacy are key principles that the Prime Minister must uphold at all levels of governance.
