“Puntland State of Somalia and the Federal Republic of Ethiopia Government have long-standing relations based on deep cooperation in social, economic, and freedom of movement aspects. The Federal Government of Somalia suspended the provisional constitution, which is the basis for maintaining unity and state building. The decision issued by the Federal Government of Somalia on April 4, 2024, undermines the interests of the Somali people and is based on enmity, rancour, and sabotage against the people of Puntland State of Somalia, as well as the dismantling of the federal system. Puntland State of Somalia makes it clear that it will continue its engagements with neighbouring countries, International Community, and Somalia’s partners. The decision to close the Ethiopian Consulate in Garowe is not applicable to Puntland.”
