China Backs Somalia Ownership of Reconciliation Efforts

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The People Republic of China has come out in support of the Federal Government of Somalia to initiate and direct reconciliation efforts in a manner that safeguards the territorial and political unity of Somalia. The Chinese stance has resulted in modifications in the draft for the renewal of the UNSOM mandate initially proposed by the United Kingdom which agreed to the China’s position wherein UNSOM supports reconciliation efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia.“UNSOM should carry out their good offices on the basis of respective ownership of the Somali authorities and safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia” proposed China.

The secessionist administration in Hargeisa forged ties with Taiwan in violation of the sovereignty of Somalia. “Somalia will write to the African Union to demand tsupport for its right to defend its sovereignty against violation by Taiwan whose diplomatic activists have opened an office in Hargeisa” said a senior Somali diplomat.

The Federal Government of Somalia has recognized SSC-Khatumo as an administration in line with the federal electoral laws, a decision that gives the Laascaanood-based authorities an autonomy and ends the jurisdiction claim of secessionists claiming to have unilaterally seceded from Somalia in 1991.
