Somaliland Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Opposes War Against SSC

Ali Hamud Jibril issued a strong statement against warmongering in Hargeisa following the defeat of Somaliland forces at Gojadde base almost two weeks ago.

Borama (PP News Desk) — In Borama, the Deputy Parliamentary Speaker of Somaliland Ali Hamud Jibril has called for an end to hostilities in Sool. “I am not in favour of any war against people of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn. Our wounded soldiers are in Borama, Hargeysa,Burao and Aynaba. Defeated soldiers are now at Oog. Our people will become united again. War is not the solution” he said in Borama.

Mr Jibril urged Borama residents to contribute to the fund for looking after wounded soldiers. On August 25th, the SSC forces overran the Somaliland military that had laid siege to Laascaanood district for six long months. More than 300 Somaliland soldiers were taken prisoners, a stark reminder of the toll of war.

Jibril’s speech at Borama

Jibril’s remarks pile more pressure to Somaliland President Muse Bihi who plans to turn the conflict into inter-clan hostilities between neighbouring clans, a trend that will adversely affect the ability of nomads to migrate to pasturelands during hostilities.
