Biscuits for acutely malnourished children go missing in Puntland stores

Plumpy’Nut biscuits have gone missing at stores run by Puntland Health Ministry

Garowe (PP News Desk) — Hundreds of cartons containing Plumpy’Nut, a biscuit for severely malnourished children, have gone missing at Ministry of Health stores in Garowe.

Run by Puntland Health Ministry, stores serve as distribution points for medical and nutrition supplies for Puntland regions.

Reliable sources told Puntland Post that authorities had not been able to honour their promises to send the nutritious biscuit to regions where the drought has caused acute malnutrition in urban and rural communities.

There remain questions about the Health Ministry’s capability to protect emergency medical and food supplies against theft.

Puntland State Government has not yet launched investigations into theft of nutritious biscuits donated to cope with the higher rate of malnutrition due to recurring droughts.
