Somalia External Affairs Minister Credits President With Directing Foreign Policy

Abdi Said: “President of Somalia directs foreign policy.”

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) —  Upon taking over the responsibility for the foreign ministry of Somalia in 2021, Abdi Said Musse Ali, the foreign minister, delineated how the  ministry operates.

“The President of Somalia directs foreign policy. He tasks the Prime Minister with the implementation of the policy” said Abdi Said in a video clip being shared widely on the social media.

The rift over rendering the African Union Special Represenative Ambassador Francisco Madeira persona non-grata on the basis of prime ministerial edict makes video clip relevant. The President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed annulled the decision by Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to declare Ambassador Madeira persona non grata.

The African Union Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat acknowledged President Mohamed letter of 7 December “with appreciation” as it reaffirms “the commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia to continue its working relationship with Ambassador Madeira in particular, and the new AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in general.”
