Erigavo (PP News Desk) — Somaliland government doubled down on its policy to displace Somalis from Southern Somalia living districts under the control of Somaliland administration.
The Deputy Governor of Sanaag appointed by Somaliland administration Mohamed Khalif Noor ordered Somalis from South Somalia to leave Erigavo within two weeks.
“In line with the decision by Somaliland government all foreigners living in Sanaag must return to their countries. Foreign labourers, business owners and teachers must leave Sanaag by 24 October 2021.” said Khalif, although several districts of Sanaag such as Hadaftimo, Badhan and Las Qoray are under Puntland State administration.
“We urge any people from Sanaag who are business partners with foreigners to terminate their partnership in an appropriate manner. They have to help their partners to pack up” added Khalif.
Last week, the break-away Somaliland administration forcibly displaced 2000 people in Lasanod on the pretext that they are foreigners.
Somaliland-affiliated militias looted some businesses owned by the victims of the forced displacement, which, according to a human rights lawyer, will have wider legal repercussions given the suffering the displaced people are going through in Galkayo, Buuhoodle and Galka’yo.
