Union of Somali Presidential Candidates Decry Arbitrary Displacement by Somaliland Government in Lasanod

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Union of Somali Presidential Candidates has denounced the arbitrary displacement of more than 2000 people in Lasanod following a decision by Somaliland government that views the victims as foreigners.

“We deplore the action by Somaliland government in Lasanod to arbitrarily displace Somali citizens living and working in a part of the their homeland . It is a violation of human rights precepts” reads the a press statement shared with the media in Mogadishu.

Union of Somali Presidential Candidates: “We deplore the action by Somaliland government in Lasanod to arbitrarily displace Somali citizens.”

The Union of Presidential Candidates denounced collective punishment of citizens for crimes committed by unidentified individuals still at large.

“We call on traditional leaders, intellectuals and religious leaders in Somaliland to speak up against arbitrary displacement of Somali citizens in Somaliland. The Somaliland government defended the arbitrary displacement of Somali citizens in Lasanod on grounds that “they are foreigners who settled in Lasanod illegally.”
