Ahlu Sunna Leader Accuses Galmudug of Using Arms from Puntland

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The leader of Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a paramilitaries has accused Galmudug administration of waging a war against the group “by using arms provided by Puntland for the express purpose to fight Al-shabaab”.

Shakir alleged Galmudug used arms provided by Puntland State

“We thank Puntland for helping Galmudug with arms in the fight against Al-shabaab, but we deplore that arms from Puntland had been used to attack us” Sheikh Shakir told BBC Somali Service.

President Said A. Deni of Puntland maintains close relationship with both Galmudug and Ahlu Sunna leaders.

Sheikh Shakir alleged that Galmudug diverted attention and resources from counterterrorism operations to fight “the Sheikhs”, by which he meant Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a paramilitaries. He claimed that the group’s aim is to improve governance in Galmudug State, despite Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a capturing Guriceel.

The Somali Federal Government sent reinforcements to the national army division in Galmudug to retake Guriceel.
