Jubaland Rebuffs Electoral Talks Proposed By Villa Somalia

Kismayo (PP News Desk) — Jubaland President Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed Islan today rejected the summit on Somalia elections proposed by President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed.

In a Somali language tweet, Jubaland President has expressed support for talks between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Union of Somali Presidential Candidates in Mogadishu and called for a summit based on September 17th electoral agreement to be held in a secure venue.

Undecided: Jubaland President Ahmed Sh. M. Islam might not attend the Mogadishu summit proposed by Villa Somalia.

Somalia’s International Partners have urged the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States “to hold their summit in the coming days.”

Jubaland volte-face on September 17th agreement contrasts with the support for continued talks with Presidential Candidates who do not have a stakeholder status in finalising modalities in electoral agreement.

The Union of Somali Presidential Candidates have no objections to the electoral agreement about which Jubaland expressed reservations several weeks ago.

Last week, Jubaland State called for the exclusion of the incumbent Somali President from electoral talks, a position adopted by the Union of Presidential Candidates, who criticised President Mohammed for proposing a summit to be held in Mogadishu.
