Garowe (PP News Desk) — Mideeye, a political association in Puntland, has come out in support of Dhuusamareeb Agreement on the electoral model for 2021 elections in Somalia.
“In line with the principles of the organisation based on national unity, popular mandate and creation of consensus-basedcsociety, Mideeye endorses the communique on Dhuusamareeb Agreement. Mideeye calls on leaders at federal and state levels to convene again in order solve differences and arrive at a consensus-based solution” reads the statement.
Mideeye urged Puntland and Jubaland governments to take an active role in endeavours for searching a better solution to national political problems. Mideeye thanked Galmudug State for hosting Dhuusamareeb Summit.
Some observers believe Mideeye ventured into federal politics without having a political mandate. Supporters of Mideeye counter that Puntland has passed the stage of clan-based constituency politics now that Puntland State Government has a political association, Kaah, making political decisions that have national implications.
Puntland boycotted Dhuusamareeb III Summit and called for a guarantor role for the International Community in the Summit.
Mideeye supporters argue that the political organisation cannot act as a bystander when a Kaah government is taking political decisions that isolate Puntland politically.
