A Puntland MP Blames the Local Government for Growing Insecurity in Garowe

Garowe (PP) — Mohamed Ahmed Haraf, a Puntland MP, has singled out the Local Government for criticism about growing insecurity in Garowe.

Haraf: Garowe Local Government is lenient to burglars.

In a note Xaraf posted in his Facebook account he pinned the blame on the local government for leniency towards “thieves who rob people in broad daylight”. “The job of Garowe Local Government is now confined to collecting house tax. They remove doors and gates of properties whose owners either had not paid tax or are not in town. The local government makes it easier for burglars to break into houses” Haraf wrote.

Garowe has seen a surge in violence and robberies since the assassination of the former Nugal Governor by Al-shabaab. Nugaal is Haraf’s constituency whose administrative capital is the seat of Puntland State Government.

“I will submit a motion to discuss the security situation in Garowe to the Puntland Parliament” Mr Haraf told Puntland Post.
