Kismayo (PP News Desk)— Jubaland State Government declared a dire humanitarian situation in Gedo due to internal displacement caused by “the attack by the Federal Government of Somalia against” the region.
In a press release issued after an an extraordinary meeting by the Jubaland council of ministers and parliament, Jubaland Government denounced the formation of an armed front in Gedo to undermine Jubaland State. “The Federal Government of Somalia created an armed front in Gedo. The front is commanded by the national intelligence agency. The Federal Government coopted persons who once held a position of authority in Jubaland State.

On 23 of February militias of the front denied an airplane carrying relief supplies to land in Doolow.” the press release reads. Deployment of militias, who clashed with Jubaland forces, resulted in the displacement of upto 20,000 persons.
The Federal Government of Somalia has been criticised for diverting resources meant to fight Al-shabaab to Gedo to destabilise Jubaland. The Mogadishu-based government does not recognise Jubaland State Government.
