Somali Federal Police seizes “A precious Rock”

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — Somali Federal Government police seized a rock believed to be precious and sourced from Ceel Cali hamlet in Hiiraan.

Conflicting accounts have emerged about the nature of the “precious rock”. One account says Somali businessman had purchased the rock from Al-Shabaab. Another account points a finger at “Al-shabaab-linked businessmen”, who were trying to sell the “stone”.

“A PRECIOUS ROCK” FROM HIIRAAN

The heavy stone is said to have been at Ceel Cali for several centuries.

Two Somali Federal MPs, Daahir Amiin Jeesow and Maryan Axmed Haaruun, have urged the Federal Government of Somalia “to return the rock to its the place of origin.” They said that Al-shabaab had removed the rock by force.

Maxamed Maxamuud Ibraahim (Goodir), a former MP, and Ibraahim Maxamed, an MP of Hirshabelle State Parliament, said that businessmen had legally bought the rock.

The Federal Police has not launched investigation into how the rock was transported from an area under control of Al-shabaab.
