Job Description.

Job Title:          Health and Nutrition Officer

Job Status:       Full time40 hours/week

Reports to:      health and nutrition Program Manager

Length of contract: 12 month

Expected date of start: As Soon as Possible

Position location: This position will be based in Qandala distrct (Balidhidin)  with substantive travel to project sites across Qandala ditrcit.

 Background:

Integrated Services for Displaced Population (ISDP) is a Somalia humanitarian Non-Profit Organization registered in federal government of Somalia and its federal member states, ISD was founded in 2010 and since it’s inception it has successfully implemented different development project in Puntland state of Somalia. ISDP is operational in Bari, Nugaal, Karkaar and Mudug regions with track record in implementing high quality health and nutrition, Food Security, Livelihood, protection and WASH interventions by providing essential services to conflict and disaster affected communities. ISDP targets to supports Internal Displace People, Refugees, Vulnerable households, drought affected communities, children and hard to reach people living in Somalia.

ISDP currently partnership with key government institutions in Puntland, and UN agencies with close working relations with local communities in Puntland.

Role and the Purpose of the post

The Health and Nutrition Officer will represent ISDP values and principles in interactions with staff and external audiences.

The incumbent is expected to oversee the implementation of health & nutrition activities and establish an effective coordination mechanism among the Qandala district health facilities staff and the partners operating in the area.

The post holder will be responsible for implementation, conduct training, monitoring and review of health and nutrition activities in  Unuun,Canjeel and Xijiijle health Centers and Tuulo-Ciise, Tuur masala, Dhaankadus and dhadaar Primary health Uniits.

She/he will be expected to work closely with the target communities; the project team particularly health and nutrition, MOH regional and district health authorities and health and nutrition cluster stakeholders.

S/he will be responsible for the timely implementation of the health and nutrition activities as per the approved program document (PD); and government and donor requirements and ISDP standards.

Staff directly reporting to this post: HMIS supervisor and IYCF supervisor

Key area of accountability:

  • Engage in the planning and achievements of the health and nutrition activities of the project and ensuring that the quality standards are met.
  • Ensure effective start up, management, implementation, monitoring, timely submission of quality reports.
  • Provide joint support and guidance to the MOH staff at health facility and community-based levels for quality implementation of nutrition and Health activities.
  • The post holder is expected to assess training needs, plan & provides assistant in trainings for staff while setting new OTP and SC sites and MBAs; assist training facilitations (preparation of training materials and kits) for health professionals in Community based Management Acute Malnutrition.
  • Conducts regular field visits to provide close supervision to the staff at health facilities and stabilization center.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports to donors and government/MOH.
  • Provides a daily/weekly/and monthly over view of drug items, RUTF, Therapeutic milk ration stocks supplied to beneficiaries; and essential health supplies.
  • Perform any other extra duties assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Post-graduate/ Bsc degree in public health/nutrition preferred or Bachelor- in Health-related field.
  • Minimum 4 years field experience in humanitarian work, including significant experience in managing IMAM & IYCF programs.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination and management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting, organizing and facilitating trainings;
  • Experience and up-to-date knowledge in the technical areas of implementing and the roll out of the newly revised IMAM guideline.
  • Substantial experience at lower levels including community in coordinating, mobilizing community, planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring and reporting;
  • Demonstrated ability for leadership and independent decision making.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.
  • Willingness and ability to work in hardship environment.
  • Excellent written communications and experience of producing high quality donor reports
  • Strong organization and project management skills and ability to deliver within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English language.
  • Knowledge of the local language is mandatory.
