Oslo (PP News Desk) — The Government of Norway has announced a public consultation on a proposed law that would ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories. The proposal was presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19 June 2026 and follows resolutions passed by the Norwegian Parliament in 2025.
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said that the settlements in occupied territories of Palestine are illegal under international law and harm the chances of achieving a peaceful two-state solution. He stated that Norwegian citizens and companies should not support or profit from activities linked to the settlements.
Under the proposal, Norway “will ban the import of goods produced in the settlements and the export of goods to them”. The bill would also prohibit property purchases, certain business activities, and services connected to settlement construction and development. Violations could lead to criminal penalties.
The Norwegian government said the measures would not affect legitimate Palestinian economic activities or humanitarian assistance. The proposal is now open for public consultation until 19 September 2026. It allows businesses, organisations, experts and other interested parties to submit their views.
