New GPE-Funded Schools Handed Over in North East State of Somalia

Official handover of four GPE-funded schools in the North East State of Somalia, tackling educational inequalities by expanding access to quality, safe and inclusive learning for local communities.

Lasanod (PP News Desk) — The Minister for Education , Culture and Higher Education of the North East State of Somalia Mr Dahir Abdirisaq Ahmed has handed over four new schools funded by the Global Partnership for Education. The four schools have been built in Ballicad, Maroodi-ka-dhac, Yagoori and Buuhoodle in the Sool and Togdheer regions.

The schools are equipped with educational aids and will go a long way to addressing educational inequality that the new Federal Member State is working to tackle.

Global Partnership for Education funding is channelled through the Federal Education Ministry in Mogadishu, which submits educational needs assessments to the GPE. The GPE-funded schools are among the milestone projects aimed at reversing the underdevelopment that affected the regions before the formation of a Federal Member State fully aligned with the Federal Government of Somalia. “The GPE-funded schools are  an example of the importance of maintaining strong collaboration between the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States,” said a senior official of the North East State Education Ministry.

“The  construction of more schools is in the pipeline in the North East State of Somalia” said Mr Dahir Abdirisaq Ahmed.
