Somaliland and Allied Militias Plan Offensive Against SSC

Muse Bihi plans offensive against SSC territories, a decision that can delay elections in Somaliland-controlled districts and spark internecine civil war in North Somalia.

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — Somaliland Administration is reportedly planning an offensive against SSC districts seven months after its forces based at Goja’adde were defeated and forced to retreat to Oog. Last year. Muse Bihi, the President of Somaliland Administration, declared the formation clan militias in Togdheer, a departure from what he calls Somaliland Army responsible for shelling Laascaanood for six months.

Bihi aims to use a new conflict as a pretext to delay elections in Somaliland-controlled districts. SSC forces did not invade Isaaq-inhabited districts and villages after they dislodged Goja’ade from Somaliland forces and allied clan militias. “Any war against SSC constituencies will be viewed as a political decision against lives and properties of a Somali clan and will have wider repercussions” said a retired MP in Hargeisa,  who accused Bihi of the intention to spark internecine inter-clan war to stay in power.

Last year, Bihi told the International Community that “a two-state solution” was the condition to stop shelling Laascaanood by Somaliland forces. “SSC forces are ready for any offensive along the long border between SSC and secessionist forces” said a commander near Oog. In August 2023 SSC forces captured more than 350 Somaliland prisoners of war.
