Mother and Child Health Centre in Mogadishu “Sold to Businessmen”

A health worker at Taleh Mother and Child Centre: “About 70, 000 outpatients from as far as Deyniile benefit from the services of the health centre. People who want to demolish the centre said that they had authorisation from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.”

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) —  A plan to sell a mother and child centre in the Taleh neighbourhood in Mogadishu has sparked anger. Residents of the neighbourhood and beneficiaries of the health centre have woken up to lorries unloading construction materials to redevelop the centre into residential and retail units.

“About 70, 000 outpatients from as far as Deyniile benefit from the services of the health centre. People who want to demolish the centre said that they had authorisation from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud” said a health worker. “It is unacceptable to sell the health centre to businessmen” said a resident in Taleh neighbourhood.

Last year, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed a national assets committee tasked with   reporting on immovable state assets currently illegally occupied by militias and their associates in Mogadishu.

Neither the Somali Federal Ministry of Health nor the Local Government of Mogadishu has commented on the attempted takeover of the health centre premises  by businessmen reportedly connected with the Federal Government of Somalia leaders.
