Celebration of Karamara Battle Sends A Message to Somaliland President

Addis Ababa (PP News  Desk) — The Ethiopian army veterans yesterday gathered at the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship memorial park in Addis Ababa to celebrate the  1978 Karamara battle in which Cuban forces with military assistance  from the Soviet Union forced the Somali army to retreat from territories  known as Soomaali Galbeed ( western Somali). The President of the secessionist administration of Somaliland was a Somali Air Force pilot who defected to join  Somali National Movement rebels.

In January 2024 Bihi signed an illegal, maritime Memorandum of Understanding with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed in a blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty.

Yes, it was 1977 and the Somali army was less than a hundred miles from Addis Ababa! If it weren’t for the help of the Soviet Union, Ethiopia would have turned into … a failed state” wrote Addissu Admas. The Oromo-dominated Ethiopian Defence Forces perpetrate massacres in the Amhara region in what an Oromumaa ideologue  styles as “a depopulation strategy against Amhara people”.

Upon signing the farcical maritime MoU Bihi claimed that Ethiopia would recognise Somaliland in return for a 50-year coastal lease to the Ethiopian government to set up a naval base in violation of the international norms.
