Somaliland Intelligence Officers Abduct a Man in Bura’o

Elders in Bura’o accused Somaliland government of masterminding the attempted abduction of Ahmed Saeed.

Hargeisa (PP News Desk) — Earlier this week, Somaliland Intelligence Agency officers abducted Ahmed Saeed Ahmed in Bura’o, his hometown, leaving the community bewildered and outraged.
Elders representing Ahmed held a press conference in Bura’o to shed light on the distressing situation. They said that Ahmed had been forcibly taken to an undisclosed location, where he had coerced into speaking with Mohamed Muse Bihi, the son of Somaliland’s President, Muse Bihi Abdi.

Bihi’s son told the abducted man that “authorities have been aware that in 2006 Ahmed “travelled to Mogadishu to join the Union of Islamic Courts and that at some point he was a money changer. President Bihi’s son made an offer to Ahmed . He instructed Ahmed to venture to a location near Gacan Libaax mountain, where he was told, five individuals equipped with equipments would join him. Ahmed was to urged to declare that he is a member of an Islamist militant front based at Gacan Libaax with the aim to introduce Shar’ia rule in Somaliland.

Somaliland intelligence officers tried to coerce Ahmed Saeed into claiming to be a member of a non-existent militant organisation “based at Gacan Libaax mountain near Hargeisa.”

The intelligence officers offered Ahmed a $100,000 incentive to collaborate on this plan to brand Gacan Libaax as a terrorists’ den. He feigned acceptance of their offer to secure his release. The officers promised Ahmed a French residence permit, allegedly granted due to, as the officers claimed, “France’s involvement in assisting Somaliland’s efforts against the Garhajis fighters based near Ga’an Libah mountain, close to Hargeisa.
