Somalia’s President Stakes His Candidacy On Two Policies

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — In a speech to women’s groups in Mogadishu Somalia’s President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed laid out his political programme ahead of presidential elections to take place in February 2021.

President Mohammed with the First Lady Mrs Saynab Abdi Mo’allim at the event for women’s groups in Mogadishu.

“I will fight poverty and bring hostilities in our country to an end” said President Mohammed. “Our country is endowed with resources. It is unacceptable that our children go to bed hungry despite the potential of our country to become an economic powerhouse” he added.

“ I don’t have six pillars. I have a set of two policies” said President Mohammed in an apparent dig at the Six Pillars of his predecessor.

President Mohammed: “I will fight poverty and bring hostilities in our country to an end.”

President Mohammed said that foreign companies would trust leaders who are trustworthy. “Our unity of purpose will defeat Al-shabaab” said President Mohammed.

Since the 2018 security reform the Somali Army has conducted effective counterterrorism operations against Al-shabaab.
