Jubaland Presidency accuses the Federal Government of violating the Draft Constitution

A letter from Jubaland Presidency indirectly alluded to the Federal Government of Somalia’s policy statement. “It is regrettable that the Federal Government violates the Draft Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Jubaland elections were conducted in line with the Draft Constitution” reads the statement from Jubaland Presidency.

The Federal Government of Somalia initially rejected the outcome of 2019 Jubaland elections after Jubaland State Government declined electoral guidelines from the Federal Government to be the basis on which elections should be conducted in Kismayo.

The International Community has  voiced concerns about lack of inclusiveness in Jubaland electoral process. “By snubbing what some analysts view as an olive branch from the Federal Government of Somalia Jubaland President has dealt another blow to his legitimacy” said  Mohamud Yasin Ali, a Somali journalist in Nairobi.
