Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The proscribed Somali extremist group Al-shabaab has executed a man accused of sorcery. Al-shabaab -affiliated media reported that the man was yesterday aft executed by a firing squad in a hamlet under the jurisdiction of Qoryooley district in Lower Shabelle.
An Al-shabaab court found Abukar Haji Omar, 50 years old, guilty of using sourcery to earn livelihood. Omar confessed to inflicting harm on many people in Lower Shabelle.
Al-shabaab investigators found equipments the man used to bewitch people. He told the Al-shabaab court that people had approached him for his ability to cast spell on anyone. Since 2011 Al-shabaab has executed sorcerers in areas under the control of the extremist group.
The Al-shabaab prosecutor said that only sorcerers would face justice. “People who seek services of a sorcerer will not be tried” added the prosecutor.
