Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly rejected a recent move by Israel to appoint a diplomatic representative to Somaliland Administration, a secessionist entity. The Somalia Foreign Ministry described the move as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a press statement issued yesterday in Mogadishu, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the decision aimed to undermine the country’s unity and contradicts the international law.
“This action represents a direct breach of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. It stands in clear contradiction to international law, including the Charter of the United Nations and the foundational principles of the African Union, both of which unequivocally recognize Somalia as a single, sovereign, and indivisible state within its internationally recognized borders” reads the press release.

Somalia urged Israel to reconsider its decision and fully respect its sovereignty and political independence and called on international organisations, including the United Nations, the African Union and the European Union, to reject any steps that could legitimise what it described as “secessionist claims”.

The Federal Government of Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to defending the unity and sovereignty of Somalia.
On 26 December 2025, the beleaguered Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a war criminal, claimed that he recognised the secessionist administration in northern Somalia at a time he is held responsible for the commuting genocide in Gaza. “We should never aid and abet Israeli aggression and expansionism that the whole world has rejected” said Sheikh Mustafe Haji Ismail in a Eid sermon in Hargeisa after the end of the month of Ramadan.
In February 2023 the African Union suspended Israeli’s observer status at the AU headquarters. The AU supports a two-state solution to Israel-Palestine conflict.
