Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — On 20 November 2025 TGS-NOPEC signed an agreement with the Federal Government of Somalia. The deal consolidates Mogadishu’s internationally recognised authority over natural resources.
The new agreement renders null and void an agreement TGS signed in 2008 with Somaliland administration, a secessionist entity in North Somalia. TGS collected more than 34,000 kilometres of high-resolution aeromagnetic data and some 5,100kilometres of offshore 2D seismic data.

Following the 2025 deal with Mogadishu, TGS subsequently handed over all seismic and aeromagnetic data gathered under its 2008 Somaliland agreement to the Federal Government of Somalia. The transfer means material that had been publicised as future oil and gas licensing rounds is now fully integrated into Somalia’s national petroleum database.
