Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Federal Government of Somalia today accused the Salvation Alliance of attempting to forcibly seize Warta Nabadda Police Station.

“The Federal Government deplores the actions of politicians who aspire to govern Somalia while bringing about the deaths of civilians and members of the Armed Forces. The Government makes it clear that responsibility for the incident at Warta Nabadda Police Station lies with those who brazenly violated the legitimacy of the state, security and the rule of law,” read a statement issued by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.

Members of the Salvation Alliance, led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, visited Warta Nabadda Police Station to secure the release of citizens detained by the security forces in the Sinai quarter of Warta Nabadda. According to a government lawyer, the arrests followed the eviction of “squatters from plots of government land unlawfully occupied since 1991.” Armed guards accompanying the Salvation Alliance reportedly exchanged fire with security personnel.

Yesterday, Senator Abdi Qeybdiid urged residents to resist government-mandated evictions in Mogadishu, a statement widely interpreted as a call to arms against the Federal Government of Somalia.
