SSCK Becomes Intergovernmental Fiscal Federalism (IGFF) Technical Committee Member

Laascaanood (PP News Desk) — The Finance Ministry of the Federal Government of Somalia has granted the Finance Ministry of the Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and Khatumo (SSCK) Administration membership in the Intergovernmental Fiscal Federalism (IGFF) Technical Committee. This membership status obliges the new administration to harmonise its public finance procedures with those of other Federal Member States.

“This development aligns with the Intergovernmental Relations Act of 2012 in Somalia, which mandates technical committees to facilitate fiscal co-operation, potentially boosting SSC-Khatumo’s economic autonomy,” tweeted Abdiqani Hirad, the Finance Minister of SSCK.

Fiscal federalism is a key pillar of state-building initiatives in the Federal Republic of Somalia and is supported by the World Bank. Federal Member States have an obligation under the IGFF to implement transparent public finance processes. Disclosure of revenue streams and reliable audits of public finances by Federal Member States constitutes an important part of fiscal federalism in Somalia.
