Kismaayo (PP News Desk) — The Vice President of Jubaland State of Somalia, Mohamud Sayid Adan, today told Universal TV that, as a Federal Member State, Jubaland supports the position of the Federal Government regarding Israel’s unlawful recognition of Somaliland.
“The Federal Government of Somalia is addressing this violation of our national sovereignty by Israel. Federal law prohibits Federal Member States from commenting on matters of sovereignty, which fall exclusively within the mandate of the Federal Government of Somalia,” said Adan.
Unlike other Federal Member States that issued public statements in support of Somalia’s sovereignty, Jubaland State chose a different approach by expressing its support for the Federal Government’s position without exercising powers constitutionally reserved for the Federal Government in Mogadishu.
The statement by the Vice President of Jubaland State of Somalia puts an end to speculation that the Jubaland leadership was indifferent to Israel’s unlawful recognition of the Somaliland administration.
The position of Jubaland is fully consistent with the Provisional Constitution, which vests the authority to formulate foreign policy and enter into agreements with foreign states solely in the Federal Government of Somalia.
