Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — SINCAD, a political party founded in Puntland, is contesting seats in Mogadishu’s local government elections scheduled for 25 December 2025.

On Thursday, party supporters held a rally at Beerta Nabadda (Peace Park) in Mogadishu, where SINCAD formally introduced the candidates it has nominated to contest the upcoming local council elections in the capital.

“Today we are making it clear that SINCAD is seeking your votes. Standing with us are our candidates, who will present their plans for Mogadishu’s local councils,” said Ahmed Saney, a senior member of SINCAD leadership. The party is officially registered with the National Election Commission of Somalia.

One of the party’s female candidates described SINCAD as a political organisation with a strong record of progressive politics and successful campaigning.

Mohamud Khalif Hassan, widely known as Jebiye and the founding chairman of SINCAD, also addressed the rally. “Mogadishu has spoken. The people of Mogadishu are ready for one-person, one-vote elections and to cast their ballots peacefully. I commend the National Election Commission for training large numbers of young people to facilitate the electoral process. SINCAD was founded in Puntland State of Somalia, where SINCAD-led councils have demonstrated a distinctive record of governance. We hope to win seats in Mogadishu,” he said.

Khalif is a prominent politician who has long opposed policies that isolate Puntland State of Somalia from the federalism-based state-building initiatives in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
