New York (PP News Desk) — Many Americans are driving the recent uptick in Bible sales. A claim by a Somali individual that a verse in Genesis entitles Somalis to be blessed in the United States has reportedly caused an unusual increase in purchases of the King James Bible. President Trump recently said that Somalis are “garbage”, an insult to which Somalis have responded humourously by creating video content depicting Somalis as the first immigrants to what is now the United States.
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you,” an American sarcastically quoted from the Bible, provoking the ire of MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporters of President Trump.
Influential Americans have described the President’s innuendos against Somalis as “racist” remarks. Sidney, a MAGA supporter in Ohio had to give credit to Somalis for their social media fightback. “I expected that we white people would be accused of racism, but Somalis are now even claiming to be the Founding Fathers of the United States, and even the Chosen People,” said Sidney.
The Somali American Public Affairs Committee tweeted last week that Cinnabon, a bakery chain, had dismissed a worker who was racist towards a Somali customer. The customer had filmed the employee using inappropriate language in the shop she was managing. The former employee was immediately terminated by the franchise owner. “Their actions do not reflect our values or the welcoming experience every guest deserves,” Cinnabon tweeted.
