Hargeisa (PP News Desk) — The Somaliland Administration’s Minister of Presidency, Khadar Abdi Hussein, has lashed out at critics of the security Memorandum of Understanding that representatives from Puntland State of Somalia and the Somaliland Administration signed in Nairobi last week.
“The agreement that the Republic of Somaliland signed with the Puntland Government has long-term security goals and diplomatic weight that strengthen the argument for recognition as well as the acknowledgement we are seeking from the international community. It is deeper than issues that a person who knows nothing about statehood strategy can understand, a person whose conception of politics boils down to spreading balderdash among his people and in Burao city, where he was once mayor…” wrote Khadar in a Facebook post in Somali.

Khadar came under fire for agreeing to drop the self-designation “Republic of Somaliland” and settle for “Somaliland Government” when the joint communiqué on the security MoU was being drafted in Somali. Puntland State denied a claim made by the Somaliland Administration’s Defence Minister, Mohamed Yusuf, who told the BBC Somali Service that the security MoU was a pact against the North East State of Somalia based in Laascaanood.
One critic of the security MoU lampooned the outcome as a far cry from the “recognition from the USA” narrative that had been trending on social media platforms before the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Dr Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met President Donald Trump last month.
Meanwhile, four political parties from Puntland State have rejected the security MoU with the secessionist administration based in Hargeisa. “We see the support for self-determination for the Somaliland Administration as a violation of the law and contrary to the main purpose of founding Puntland State: to promote the unity of Somalia,” a joint statement from the four parties reads.
