Hargeisa (PP News Desk) — Prominent political leaders and civil society organisations in Hargeisa have expressed dismay over comments made by Somaliland administration foreign minister, Abdirahman Dahir, about the proposal by President Donald Trump and the Israeli government to uproot Palestinians in Gaza.
“We are open to discussion on any matter, but we do not want to speculate on matters that have not yet been discussed. All countries that are interested in discussing certain issues with us must first establish working relations with us and open diplomatic missions in Somaliland” Dahir told KAN, operated by the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation.

“If this is true that the Somaliland government has been approached for the resettlement of thousands/ millions of Gazans, is beyond belief, truly ridiculous. It is a repeat of the old colonial/ imperialist history of cleansing people from their homelands …” tweeted Mohamed W. Dualeh, former foreign adviser envoy of the former president of Somaliland administration. Last year, a major fundraising for Gazans took place in Hargeisa.

Somaliland administration President Abdirahman Abdullahi has been accused of damaging the reputation of his new administration. “Unlike Britain which has diplomatic presence in Somalia and maintains an office in Hargeisa, Israel cannot have a diplomatic mission in Hargeisa. The Taiwan Office in Hargeisa could be closed soon given the protests made by the Federal Government of Somalia about Taiwan because Somalia subscribes to one China policy” said a journalist in Hargeisa.
Somaliland administration claims to have unilaterally seceded from Somalia in 1991. Last week, the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Ahmed Mo’alim Fiqi rejected the suggestion that Gazans could be resettled in parts of Somalia to implement the displacement plan proposed by the President of the United States, Donald Trump and the Israeli Government.
