Hargeisa (PP News Desk) — The Commander of Somaliland Forces Brigadier General Nuh Tani “demonised” rivals of the Somaliland Administration President and chided the International Community and major Western countries for supporting the institutions of the Federal Government of Somalia. In an editorial posted on the Facebook page of the Somaliland Administration forces entitled ‘International Support for Somalia: Contributing to Instability in Somaliland,’ General Tani made unsubstantiated allegations that reflect President Muse Bihi’s fear of the outcome of the presidential elections scheduled for November. “The current Somaliland government, led by President Musa Bihi, is pro-Western and has ties to Arab Gulf countries. However, this could change if the opposition party gains power and seeks to align with China, possibly offering them a military base in Somaliland,” General Tani argued.
A commentator in Hargeisa said: “ From the editorial, it is clear that Bihi sees Waddani as the main opposition party. Tani would have written ‘an opposition party’ instead of ‘the opposition party.’”
General Tani was overseeing Somaliland forces responsible for shelling Laascaanood for more than six months before SSCF fighters overran Goja’adde foxholes in August 2023. Tani reorganised Somaliland forces into clan militias now based in Eastern Togdheer. His editorial hints at a possible delay of Somaliland elections “under security pretexts.” The incumbent government of the Somaliland Administration did not distance itself from the views Tani expressed in the editorial.
