Lasanod (PP News Desk) — Yasin Mohamud Hir, UK-based retired politician, arrived in Lasanod last night in an attempt to capitalize on the uprising that resulted in the withdrawal of Somaliland troops in Lasanod two days ago.
Yasin is holding meetings in West Lasanod with militias of his subclan commanded by Mahad Anbashe, his nephew. His main hope is to replace Abdirisaq Khalif, the Speaker of Somaliland Parliament, who accused Somaliland forces of atrocities and switching off the district electricity grid at a time doctors were operating on people wounded by Somaliland troops.
Yasin Faraton argued for the return of Somaliland forces to Lasanod. In 2003 he deployed Somaliland troops in Yagoori. Twenty years after the deployment, Faraton banks on the militias that kept Somaliland troops in Lasanod since 2007.
Garad Jama Garad Ismail categorically rejected Faraton’s demand about the return of Somaliland forces to Lasanod. “Such a decision will lead to bloodshed. No single militia can exert control in Lasanod. People will take up arms and fight in the streets to protect themselves. No politician or traditional leader from Sool can call for the return of Somaliland troops to Lasanod” Garad Jama Garad Ismail said to Yasin Faraton, who flew from London two days ago.
Yasin Faraton backs the Somaliland proposition that Sool is a terrorist-infested region, an argument that is the basis for the now shelved security partnership between Somaliland and the United States. In 2017 Faraton said that Al-shabaab was in Lasanod.
