Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Speaker of Somalia Federal Parliament Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur appointed today a committee on the situation in Lasanod. Mr Adan invoked articles 33 and 63 of the draft constitution and the debates during the seventh session of the parliament held on 2 January 2022.
Made up of ten members, the committee is tasked with reporting on the situation in Lasanod where Somaliland administration militias killed more than 10 persons demonstrating against targeted assassinations in Lasanod.
The appointment of the committee is unprecedented in the state-building endeavours of Somalia.
MPs from Lasanod in Somalia’s bicameral legislature have submitted a motion to debate the situation in Lasanod. The report to be submitted by the parliamentary committee will be a basis for legal measures to be adopted by the federal legislatures to protect political rights of Somali citizens in Lasanod and hold perpetrators accountable for killing and maiming citizens demonstrating peacefully.
