Puntland State Government Staff Salaries Remain Unpaid for Three Months

Garowe (PP News Desk) — Puntland State government is facing criticisms for having failed to pay salaries of civil servants for three months. Staff members of key Puntland government ministries and agencies confided in Puntland Post reporter that “Puntland State government has yet to pay salaries dating back to June 2022”.

Puntland Finance Ministry officials who have been contacted had declined to comment on this story. The World Bank and IMF subsidise Puntland State government payroll.

Three months after a new federal administration assumed power in Mogadishu it is unclear whether the Federal Finance Ministry is withholding budgetary transfers that Bretton Woods Institutions channel through Mogadishu for Federal Member States.

Last year, the administration of President Said Abdullahi Deni was commended for paying government staff salaries without delay.
