Puntland President Declares His Candidacy for Villa Somalia

President Deni declaring his candidacy in Garowe

Garowe (PP News Desk) — President of Puntland State of Somalia Said Abdullahi Deni yesterday declared his candidacy for 2022 Somalia presidential elections. In a event held in Garowe for the new Puntland federal MPs and Senators, Deni staked out his goal to become the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

“All other presidential candidates must unite to unseat the incumbent Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed” he told the newly elected MPs and Senators for the bicameral legislature. President Deni did not flesh out his political programme despite describing the sole goal of his candidacy as a campaign to replace his political nemesis.

Deni’s plan is said to be centred on eliminating the incumbent President in the first round to be able to form an alliance with any other potential presidential candidate.

Analysts reckon that Deni is likely to garner more votes than he did in 2017 presidential elections, but any agreement with a presidential candidate might prove futile. Deni boosts re-election chances of the incumbent President and the possible comeback of either Damuljadid or Aala Sheikh cliques.

President Deni was a federal planning minister under the government of the former Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is also a Presidential Candidate.
