Boosaaso (PP News Desk) — Lafogorayo gravel road in Gardafuu is one of the most treacherous roads in Puntland. Seasonal rains result in further damages to the road used by people in Gardafuu to travel to other parts of Puntland.
In 2019 $ 350, 000 was raised to upgrade the road. Puntland government reportedly pledged a match funding of $200, 000.
Civil society members in Gardafuu yesterday told Puntland Post that “we are not sure if the money raised in the name of Lafogorayo project still remains in a bank account”. They are skeptical about the pledge made by Puntland government to contribute to Lafogorayo road construction budget.
“Puntland government has neither honoured its pledge nor has it given the construction project the green light” Gardafuu civil society members added. Puntland government officials were not available to comment on the shelved project.
The committee tasked with overseeing the construction of Lafogorayo road has not met since the first phase of raising the money for the project. Puntland government is aware of a bank account into which project money was deposited.
