Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The South West State of Somalia had boycotted an electoral summit publicised by Somalia Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble. In a press statement South West State accused Roble of violation the independence of the electoral arbitration committee after seven members had been sacked.
“South West State is ready to attend the consultative electoral summit that Somali President has proposed” reads the statement. Electoral rift emerged after President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohammed had called for an electoral summit due to alleged failures by Roble.
South West State leadership accused Roble of bias towards the Union of Presidential Candidates. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Mogadishu tweeted ambiguously in support of “in-person National Consultative Council meeting in Mogadishu.“
