Garowe (PP News Desk) — Puntland Ministry of Education intervened to diffuse pupil demonstrations that rocked parts of Garowe today.
The Ministry appointed Mustafe Abdulkadir Mohamed, a former deputy headteacher, as the interim headteacher of Gambool Secondary School.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has tasked a five-member committee with finding out the causes of pupil demonstrations in Garowe.
The city of Garowe today saw violent demonstrations by Gambool Secondary School pupils who forced the headteacher and senior teachers to barricade themselves in the school offices.
Pupils were demonstrating against fee hike and the transfer of some teachers from Gambool Secondary School to other schools in Garowe.
In a letter signed by the Deputy Education Minister Bashir Jama Mohammed, the Ministry vowed to investigate “the incident and bring culprits to justice.”
The threat in the letter is targeted at pupils whose complaints Puntland Education Ministry has failed to address.
“The sacking of the former Gambool Secondary School headteacher comes across as an admission of failure on the part of Puntland Education Ministry” said a former educational administrator in Garowe.
