The ministry of women’s affairs in Puntland has launched an anti-violence campaign against women

The Ministry of Women Development and Family Affairs of Puntland launched today the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 25 November.

This campaign will last for 16 days in the community awareness campaign to eliminate violence against women, and will be conducted in all nine regions of Puntland.

Puntland Minister of Women’s Affairs Maryan Ahmed Ali officially launched this campaign and attended the event, Minister for Education Abshir Yusuf Isse, officials from the Partnership agencies in ministry of women, Women and other honourable guests.

Puntland’s minister of women Maryan Ahmed Ali said this campaign was held annually for the purpose of ending the violence against women.

Puntland’s Minister of Education and Higher Education Abshir Yusuf Isse told the ceremony that women are the backbone of the society and it’s therefore unacceptable that women are subjected to violence.

Mr Sayed Sahibzada, UNDP head of Puntland, praised the ministry for its efforts to end abuses against women, and called on the community to participate in the campaign.

The head of criminal sexual offense (Puntland Forensic Center) Abdirashid Mohamed Shire praised the efforts of the ministry to end the violence of women.

Ahmed Osman Aden of UNICEF said his agency is working with the Puntland government to eliminate violence against women, especially in the fight against FGM.
