Recruitment Notice for 500 Entry-Level Police Trainees for the 2025/2026 Intake

The Puntland State Police hereby invites applications from highly motivated and qualified individuals for the 2024/2025 Entry-Level Police Trainee Program. This is a wonderful opportunity to launch a rewarding career in law enforcement and service delivery to the communities of Puntland State.

1. Key Responsibilities

Police Trainees, upon successful completion of the BPRTP will be sent for specialized training programs depending on their performance, promotion, etc. Their key responsibilities include the following:

Law Enforcement: preventing, detecting, and apprehending crime.

Public Safety: maintaining law and order, ensuring safety, and responding to emergencies. Community Policing: building relationships with and serving the community and taking care of local issues.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: Applicant must be a Somali citizen, resident in Puntland State. Documentary proof of this is to be provided.
  • Age: 22-35 years; this is to be proved with documentary evidence.
  • Height for males: Applicants must be a minimum of 168 Centimeters tall
  • Height for females : Applicants must be a minimum of 160 Centimeters tall .
  • Weight : Applicants must be a weight that is healthily proportionate to their height.
  • Education: At least a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent qualification, which is to be supported with documents.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in Somali and Arabic or Somali and English.
  • Physical Fitness: Meeting the physical demands of police work and able to pass a police fitness test
  • Mental Health: Of sound mind; therefore, emotionally stable.
  • Character: High morality and integrity.
  • Legal Status: No criminal record; thus, a background check will be carried out.
  • Commitment to training: selected candidates need to be prepared to complete training or refund training costs if they drop out of the training.
  • Substance abuse: individuals who have alcohol and substance abuse problems are not allowed.

3. Remuneration

  • During training: there will be a monthly stipend for the trainees during the period of training.
  • Upon completion: after completion, police officers will be sworn-in, given ranks based on their performance and given monthly salary based on the rank achieved.

4. Basic Police Recruit Training Programme (BPRTP)

Candidates who get selected will undergo a rigorous basic training course, which will be conducted at Carmo Police Academy. Trainee will be provided with;

  • Training gear,
  • Meals
  • Accommodation.

5. Required Documents:

  • CV
  • Copy of a valid national ID or passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Academic transcripts and degree certificates
  • Driver’s license – optional
  • Letter of police clearance
  • Letter of guarantee from a recognized community leader or employer
  • Guarantor’s letter from a Traditional Clan Leader

6. Selection Process

Selected applicants would be put through a series of intensive selection processes, which include the following :

  • Application review against eligibility criteria
  • Written examination on General Knowledge, Problem Solving and Written Communication
  • Physical fitness test measuring strength, endurance and agility.
  • Medical examination to assess the general health and fitness of the applicant.
  • Psychological evaluation to diagnose mental fitness and potential suitability for the police.
  • Interview to evaluate communication skills, motivation, and suitability for the police service.
  • Background check to verify criminal history and other relevant information.
