WOMEN, YOUTH, AND VULNERABLE GROUP ENTREPRENEURS’ GRANTS

1 Background    

PRECISE project is an EU funded project that is implemented by ADRA in Puntland and Galmudug States of Somalia. The Action seeks to complement the bigger vision of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Somalia. It is funded by the European Union through the CSO-EIDHR funding, with co-financing from the lead agency ADRA Switzerland. It is implemented by ADRA Somalia and Development Action Network (DAN).

The Project’s Overall objective is to strengthen civil society within a participative democracy that contributes to the building of a stable, resilient and accountable society in Somalia. The Specific objective is to create and sustain accountable and inclusive participation of citizens and institutions in civic, social, economic and political spheres of their lives.

The project is geared towards achieving several results. Among the results to be achieved is theEnhanced engagement of women, youth and vulnerable groups in economic empowerment.” One of the activities under this result is to provide grants to women and youth entrepreneurs in Puntland and Galmudug States.

Therefore, ADRA is seeking for application from qualified entrepreneur groups to submit their business proposal for the grant from the PRECISE project.

  1. Objective of the call for proposal

The objective of this activity is to engaged women, youth vulnerable groups in gainful employment. The proposed action is keen on providing young people with business and life-skills that will help them design and respond to the business and industry expectations to succeed at the workplace. The action will build the competencies to compete in dynamic business environment; connect youth to entrepreneurs and organizations by finding ways the young people can contribute productively and integrating them into the world of business.

The successful entrepreneur groups will further be supported with training, linkages, networking in order to improve and expand their enterprises.

  1. Expression of interest

Interested women, youth, and vulnerable  groups are encouraged to send an expression of interest letter. Applicants to clearly indicate their State whether it is Puntland or Galmudug. Successful applicant will be invited for trained on development of business plans/proposal.

  1. Scope of work to be carried under the grant

The grants under this call will only be used to promote any legally business run by youth or women or vulnerable group in Galakyo. The applicants to clearly demonstrate how the grants will increase employment. Applicants allowed to apply for this grants are those who have legal business in Galkaio only. Applicants must have business and come from Galkaio.

  1. Financial allocation provided by the ADRA

The overall indicative amount made available under this Call is USD 5,000.00 per entrepreneur group. A total of 10 entrepreneur groups will benefit from the grants. ADRA reserves the right not to award all available funds. Any grant requested under this Call must be equal or less than the maximum amounts of USD 5,000.00. The entrepreneur group should contribute at least USD 1,000 in addition to the amount requested from ADRA.

6.      Eligibility criteria

  • Should be a registered entity.
  • Should be commercially registered in Puntland or Galmudug State of Somalia.
  • The enterprise group should be based in Galkayo.

7.      How to Apply

All applicants are required to submit their expression of interest indicating their business background. The applications should be submitted by email on or before 09 November  2018 to info@adrasom.org with “PRECISE – Business grant expression of interest” in the subject. Any other mode will not be accepted.
