Addis Ababa (PP News Desk) — Reda Getachew, an adviser to Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, told Al Jazeera that genocide had been committed in Tigray. In a soon-to-be-released interview conducted by Mehdi Hassan, Reda responded to earlier accusations he had made against the Ethiopian government, stating that “Abiy Ahmed perfected genocide into an art form.”

“Whatever the superlatives there, I know all kinds  of crimes were committed in Tigray. I believe genocide has been committed in Tigray,” Reda added.

The two-year conflict in Tigray resulted in the deaths of more than 400,000 people, alongside the persecution of Tigrayans and widespread sexual violence against Tigray women. Reda’s remarks, as a former spokesperson for the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, come at a time when the Ethiopian government is waging conflict in civilian-populated areas of the Amhara region in an effort to dissuade Amharas from supporting FANO, an Amhara resistance movement opposed to Abiy Ahmed’s regime.
