Laascaanood (PP News Desk) — Reports indicate that a staff member of the Ethiopian Consulate in Garowe, Farah Aidid Jama, was murdered in Laascaanood, his hometown. His body was found on the outskirts of Laascaanood. Although Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and Khaatumo (SSCK) administration has not officially briefed the media on Jama’s death, the social media is rife with disinformation aimed at tarnishing the image of the new administration.
Somali secessionists’ social media trolls have resorted to the textbook practice of disinformation, dating back to 1995, when the late Mohamed Ibrahim Egal, Somaliland administration president, told the BBC World Service that terrorists were based in Laascaanood, to which the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi, responded: “We are familiar with the intricacies of Somali politics.”

In 2023, the secessionist administration of Somaliland, at war with SSCK, misleadingly claimed that it serves as a buffer zone for Ethiopia.
A senior security officer of the SSCK administration said that “some political enemies of the SSCK administration are spreading lies similar to those spread by the former Somaliland administration president, Muse Bihi Abdi, who claimed that Al-Shabaab terrorists were based in Laascaanood.”
SSCK territories border the Somali region of Ethiopia, whose administration successfully mediated between two Dhulbahante subclans nearly seven years ago. “The SSCK is a part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. We will seek expertise to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of Jama if that need arises,” said an official of the Sool regional administration.
Last week, the Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, and his council of ministers paid a visit to Laascaanood, where he declared Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and Khaatumo administration to be a federal member state.
