Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The US State Department has issued travel warnings about Somalia following reports that Al-shabaab attacked parts of the Middle Shabelle region.
“The U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu is tracking credible information related to potential imminent attacks against multiple locations in Somalia including Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport. All movements of U.S. Embassy Mogadishu personnel have been cancelled until further notice” reads the statement from the US State Department.

The embassy urged U.S. citizens to remain aware of terrorism threats, warning of potential “kidnappings, bombings and other attacks in Somalia”.
The resurgence of Al-shabaab in parts of territories that were liberated two years ago poses a threat to Somalia’s capital. Last week, Al-shabaab briefly seized control of Balcad and Ceelbaraf, two districts in the Middle Shabelle region. A senior Hirshabelle officer said that “failures in the political leadership have led to setbacks in the Ma’awislsy campaigns, which had driven Al-shabaab out of the Hirshabelle countryside two years ago”.
