Lasanod Water Supply Reopens Under New Public-Private Partnership

Aw Ali praised investors and the Lasanod local council for their collaborative efforts in re-establishing a reliable water supply to the city.

Lasanod (PP News Desk) —  The leader of the Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and Khatumo interim administration, Abdulkadir Aw Ali, yesterday inaugurated the reopening of the Lasanod Water Supply, which was deliberately destroyed by the Somaliland administration forces during the six-month siege of the city in 2023.

Aw Ali commended investors and the Lasanod local government for working together to restore a proper water supply to the city, which had suffered from war and displacement.

The ownership structure of the Lasanod Water Supply has been reformed to introduce a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, under which the SSCK administration holds a 51% stake in the utility.

The Lasanod Water Supply was originally founded by a group of local investors who have now agreed to the new ownership model to strike a balance between regulation and business development. The PPP model is expected to create a fair playing field for potential investors to establish competing companies.
