Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — Ibrahim Mohamed Osoble bought a plot of land in 1987 after Mogadishu Municipality granted planning permission to the owner of the land in what was then Wadajir district (now Dharkeynley). His land has now been occupied by Jazeera Estate, a company financed by IBS Bank, according to a board on the fencing of the plot of land legally owned by Mr Osoble.
“This is the proof of my ownership of this plot of land. I looked like this then; now you see how I look like” said Osoble, displaying the property ownership documents and an ID card issued by Mogadishu Municipality before 1991.
Osoble said that he does not aim to cause trouble or resort to violence. “My ownership documents have been certified by Omar Tugumbe” added Osoble. Omar Tugumbe worked for the land department of Mogadishu Municipality and rescued land registry documents of Mogadishu. For a fee, Omar Tugumbe, who now lives outside Somalia, helps settle property and land disputes in Mogadishu by disclosing data on property ownership, dates of planning permission and details of houses near the land or property in question.
Armed militias protect the land claimed by Osoble.” I don’t know who occupied my land, except the information on the board fixed to the fence surrounding my land,” Osoble told Hubaal TV, a news channel.
In Mogadishu, banks and conglomerates acquire land or finance the construction of houses. Osoble called on people to be wary of making business deals with Jazeera Estate or IBS Bank “on my plot of land that has been illegally occupied.”
