Addis Ababa (PP News Desk) — Jawar Mohammed, an Ethiopian politician, had his autobiography falsified and sold on Amazon before the online retailer removed it from its listings. He sent a galley copy of the book to an official at the Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi. Jawar alleged that the book was passed on to others, who scanned it, added unauthorised content and shared it online.
The Ethiopian government arrested Jawar but released him two years ago. His political autobiography, Hin Gaabbu, (Don’t quit) written in the Oromo language, includes passages about the regime change in Ethiopia in 2018, the Tigray War (2020-2022), and other political events in post-TPLF Ethiopia.
“No data is safe in today’s Ethiopia where even private banking details are bought and sold as seen in the rampant abduction for ransom practices; no property rights are respected where the government seizes private property at will, as seen in the so-called “Corridor Development”; and no property is protected in a system where top diplomats and intelligence officials steal any thing with impunity” Jawar tweeted.
Jawar has been criticised for treating Ethiopian diplomats as peers, allowing them to comment on his autobiography, which details his political life and critiques the regime of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
